Hacking Technicolor Gateways

Hacking Gateways

Most devices have different features, including: 802.11ac, MU-MIMO, ADSL2/VDSL2/eVDSL modem, DECT base station, FXS ports, FXO port, 4G backup, SFP slot, etc.  There is usually no generic firmware that simply gives you access to the gateway like with any other purchased device. Most Technicolor gateways run with customized firmware that implements ISP-specific integrations and is limited in functionality to meet service requirements. This is quite annoying because if you want to use this device with another ISP, you will likely be prevented or simply lose some features. This motivates hacking the device to at least reactivate as many features as possible.

For some other devices, a no-brand firmware exists. These appear as "Technicolor" branded and implement the "MST" integration, a standard third-party remote management platform for ISPs that do not pay for firmware customization. With such firmware, no regular configuration options are locked, but gaining root access opens up a wider range of possibilities.

Note: Not working for cable modems like CGA2121E
